Diploma in Sign-Language Interpretation

Eligibility: A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the course if he/she has passed 10+2 examination with a minimum of 50% marks. The candidate should also have completed 18 years of age as on the date of application.
Duration: The duration of the course is for one academic year, broken up into three levels, namely, Level-A, B and C, as per the following classifications:
Level A : Basic Signing Skills
Level B : Advanced Signing Skills
Level C : Interpreting Skills
Each level consists of a minimum of 75 working days, providing for a minimum of 450 hours of course work. The course is flexible and can be completed within a period of three years, where the trainees are allowed to break only between the different levels. On completion of each level, a certificate will be given. On the successful completion of Level-C, a diploma recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India will be awarded.
Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction will be English.
Course of Study: The course of study shall include the following:
Level A Theory : Paper 1: Introduction to Deafness and Sign-Language Concepts
Practical : Basic Signing Skills
Level B Theory : Paper 2: Oralism, Total Communication Concepts and Cultural Perspectives
Practical : Advanced Signing Skills
Level C Theory : Paper 3 : Environmental Aids and Interpreting Concepts
Practical : Interpreting Skills
Passing minimum: Any candidate who has secured an aggregate of 50% of marks in each of the theory and practical components of the sign-language is eligible for promotion. |
