Diploma in Education Special Education

The objective of the course is to prepare teachers at the primary level to teach children with visual impairment, hearing impairment, and mental retardation. The uniqueness of the Diploma is that they are offered through Credit Accumulation System which paves the way for the taker of a course to learn at his/her own pace.
Eligibility: Any candidate seeking admission to the course should have passed Higher Secondary or 10+2 of the State.
Duration: The course is for a period of two academic years, divided into four semesters, with 220 working days providing a maximum of 1320 instructional hours per year. Thus the total number of working days in two academic years will be 440 with 2640 instructional hours. In the case of a break after any semester, a candidate will be allowed to complete the course within a maximum of four appearances, whereas a student without break will be able to complete the course in two years.
Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction for curriculum transaction is English.
Course of study: In each of the specializations the course of study shall include 14 theory papers and the respective practicum pertaining to the disability.
Methodology: The methodology of the course includes lectures, demonstrations, project work, exposure visits to different rehabilitation projects, practice teaching and internship in the disability intervention programmes.
Passing minimum: Examinations will be conducted at the end of each semester. A candidate appearing for the examinations is eligible for a pass, if he/she obtains a minimum of 40% of marks in both internal and external evaluation, and an aggregate of 50% when both are combined. A candidate will be awarded the diploma if he/she has passed in all the 4 semesters with the requisite grades in a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years. |
