           The objective of the course is to prepare teachers at the primary level to teach children with visual impairment, hearing impairment, and mental retardation. The uniqueness of the diploma is that they are offered through credit accumulation system which paves the way for the taker of a course to learn at his/her own pace.

Eligibility:
     Any candidate seeking admission to the course should have passed higher secondary or 10 +2 of the State.
Duration:
      The course is for a period of two academic years divided into four semesters and with 220 working days, providing a maximum of 1320 instructional hours per year. Thus the total number of working days in two academic years will be 440, with 2640 instruction hours. In the case of a break after any semester, a candidate will be allowed to complete the course within a maximum of four appearances, whereas a student without a break will be able to complete the course in two years.

Course of Study:
     In each of the specialization the course of study shall include 14 theory papers and the practicum pertaining to the disability.
Methodology:
The methodology of the course includes lectures, demontrations, Project work, exposure visits to different rehabilitation projects, practice teaching and intership in the disability intervention programmes.
